Candle Care Tips: Get the Most Out of Your Candle

Lighting a 3-wick Soy candle

Ever feel like your candle won’t stay lit, burns unevenly, or loses its scent too quickly?

The truth is — most candle issues come down to how they’re burned and maintained. A few simple adjustments can completely change your experience.

Lighting a Wood Wick Candle (The Right Way)

If you’re new to wood wicks, they behave a little differently than traditional cotton wicks — but once you get the hang of it, you’ll never go back.

Think of it like lighting a small campfire. The wick needs a moment to draw up the wax before it fully catches.

How to do it:

  • Hold your lighter to the wick a little longer than usual

  • Move it slowly across the wick to help it catch evenly

  • Allow the flame to build before pulling away

This helps prevent the #1 issue: a candle that won’t stay lit

4 Simple Tips for a Better Burn

1. Trim Your Wick (Every Time)

Keep your wick trimmed to about 1/4 inch before lighting.

Why it matters:

  • Prevents large, flickering flames

  • Reduces soot

  • Helps your candle burn evenly

2. Let the Wax Pool Fully

Burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time, especially on the first burn.

Why it matters:

  • Prevents tunneling

  • Ensures an even burn across the entire surface

This is key to getting the full life out of your candle

3. Don’t Burn It All the Way Down

Stop burning when about 1/4 inch of wax remains.

Why it matters:

  • Prevents overheating the container

  • Keeps burning safe

4. Store Your Candles Properly

Keep candles in a cool, dark place when not in use.

Why it matters:

  • Protects the fragrance

  • Prevents fading or warping

Why This Matters (And Why Our Candles Perform Better)

At T.S. Home Studio, we design our candles to give you a clean, long-lasting burn using:

  • Soy wax for a smoother, slower burn

  • Wood wicks for a soft crackle and even melt pool

  • Clean fragrance blends for a more elevated scent experience

When cared for properly, our candles are designed to burn longer, smell better, and create a more relaxing atmosphere — without the harsh chemicals found in many mass-produced candles.
